May God Bless you and your family! Our government would never admit to being wrong! One thing is for sure, you can never complain about them over using common sense! -- Pic

I have flown over your tires and see what a great job you've done in making straight fences from them. I also flew quite low over them to see if I could detect any swarms of mosquitoes around or near the tires. The only swarms of mosquitoes I saw were on the surrounding potholes which can never be drained to save a duck etc. What about all the nesting birds than nest in the protection of these tires. If you have to move these tires wouldn't you then be interrupting the wildlife in our state? I take issue with the state telling you that they need to be moved when I drive around and see all the landfills blowing trash in all directions from those sites. I also took pictures as they are a tourist attraction. At one time this past summer when I heard about the mosquitoes being more prominent around the piles of tires; I drove up got out of the car and walked close and around the tires. I didn't see more than a few mosquitoes. Then I drove down to the surrounding pot hole area and the windshield of my car was covered with mosquitoes. I got out and walked only a few feet before rushing back into my car to get out off thousands of mosquitoes that hatch out around all these little sloughs and potholes. I think the state department should look into all the potholes causing the biggest cause of "west Nile" in this whole area. Should we also drain the rivers as they also harbor all types of hazards as well as being a breeding spot for mosquitoes. I can't see where the tires could be of any harm to anyone. As far as a fire hazard is concerned how could they catch fire unless someone torched them. And then one could just open part of the fence and the fire could easily be contained. -- Art

I work for the Federal Government. I think what you are doing is wonderful. It is eye pleasing, safe, and you are hurting no one. You don't even have any neighbors. I wish you luck with the State. Whatever happens, there are many people on your side - of which, should be the government. Good luck and God Bless. What you are doing is a good thing!!!!!! -- Barb

I reviewed your website in full, and you are getting screwed by the state. My empathy for you and your family runs pretty deep as I grew up in Benson County on a sheep, cattle, and small grain farm. I also despise big, bureaucratic government. Government does have a purpose and harassing good citizens is not included in that purpose. Knowing the amount of natural standing water in the Devils Lake basin makes the mosquito allegation very laughable. Also, I think that the tire fences would stop a prairie fire in its tracks rather than igniting into an inferno. It takes some amount of time before a tire will catch fire. -- Doug

I THINK YOU ARE A GENIUS!! MOST EXCELLENT USE OF OLD TIRES! GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR FIGHT. I cannot believe what you are going thru. I am truly appalled that this state is giving you such grief, threatening you with loss of property and loss of a lifestyle that is the hallmark of this great country of ours. YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT MOSQUITOS??!!?? DRIVE DOWN ANY BACK FARM COUNTRY ROAD AND GET OUT OF YOUR CAR TO GAZE UP AT THE STARS OR THE NORTHERN LIGHTS, and see how long you can last. There is not a discarded tire in sight - IT'S ONLY NORTH DAKOTA!!!!! PLEASE PEOPLE, LIVE AND LET LIVE!! -- TEE

We read with great interest and compassion your story. Politicians know if they want to put something illegal or immoral upon the people they simply create names that convey something good to cover chicanery (trickery). For example politicians and bureaucrats use the word "democracy" to promote the expansion of government, and fascism, which is state controlled capitalism, as was Germany under Adolph Hitler. Who owns your life? is it yours or is it government? If government makes my choices for me I am no longer free. We pray for you and your family, keep up the spirit. -- Elmer and Esther

I think it is a neat way to recycle. Maybe the state people are just mad because it was not there idea first. I think from the looks of it you did a real nice job recycling. -- Frieda

It's a darn shame the state government can't get a clue and see that your use of these old tires makes a lot more sense that burying them in some field. With fencing being one of the larger investments of both money and labor for a rancher/farmer it certainly makes sense to get rid of an ever-growing waste problem and use it to help lower the costs of building durable fencing. This is obviously just another case of out-of-control government flexing their power because they can. Not because they have a better solution. What Governor Hoeven's office should have said was there was nothing they will do to to help you. At least that would have been honest. I am saddened by your family's troubles, may God bless you all. -- Richard

In my understanding recycling is the ability to reuse a product over again in its original form or anther. What better way to benefit you and save a landfill. Please fight this issue for all farmer and rancher all over America. You do all true Americans proud. good luck. -- Ken
